what r the uses.....sideeffects.....

USE:
The drug escitalopram is a recent SSRI group like drug and is used commonly nowadays in the treatment of anxiety,depression and obsessive compulsive disorders.This drug by few mechanisms helps to restore the normal chemical balance within brain and thus helps in raising the mood level and reducing the anxiety outbursts.
Unlike ativan(lorazepam),this drug escitalopram will not make him sleepy always but aids in getting good sleep at night..Also Lorazepam is ineffective for treating depression..So escitalopram would reasonably be a better choice
SIDE EFFECTS:
Side effects are very rare..However you may expect commonly CNS related side effects like drowsiness,headache,sleeplessness,abnormal sensations etc) and gastrointestinal related side effects like diarrhea,constipation,vomiting,dyspepsia etc.
DURATION:
This drug is first prescribed for a duration of one week initially at lower doses to look for the patient's response and then can be continued for even few months or until symptoms fade away whichever is earlier.
