Question: I have been taking 75mg. of clopidogrel every since an ischemic stroke on March 8. The hospital doctor gave me just 30 tablets when I talked to my doctor about going back to baby aspirin. He said to consider the clopidogrel my new aspirin and to keep taking it the rest of my life. I am concerned about the side effects.
I was also put on atorvastatin 40n mg. tablets to continue taking for the rest of my life. My LDL at the time of my stroke was 129. I am 142 lbs. , 5ft. 3inches. For the past 25 years, I 've eaten a low fat, whole grain, lots of fruits and veg. and reg. exercise and kept my blood work at acceptable levels. I was told by the emergency room doctor that the esterdiol that I had XXXXXXX taking for 10 years had coated my arteries and veins and was causing the cholesterol to stick to it. Needless to say I stopped taking it. I was also told to take atorvastatin 40 mg. daily to prevent any more strokes or a heart attack. I have no question that is necessary. I'm concerned about taking Plavix forever. I am 79 years old and in good health except for this.
I'd appreciate your opinion.
