What Are The Effects Of Statins On Hormones?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Oct 2016
Question: Hi, What research has been done on the effect of statin use on hormone levels? Since hormones, sex hormones in particular, are made from cholesterol, it would be prudent to research any effect, and yet I can find no research on the subject.

Hello XXXXX, Welcome to HCM
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

The reason why your not able to view them is most likely due to the copyright protection of theses articles and different country's variable Internet protocol which prevents them to appear in search portals publicly..

I've done some research after reading your query, and based on your query, I've found few research articles which you'll be able to open hopefully (the latest published research articles till now is of July'15)..

I'm listing the links below, let me know if your able to open and read then or not :

To summarize in a nutshell, several studies have shown Statin has a role in reducing the Testosetrone level while several others shown it doesn't, so ongoing studies are still going and there's no definitive result as of now..

However, in case of Statin intolerance and/ doubtful adverse effects, there's another new 2nd line of lipid lowering agent has already been approved by FDA by the name of ALIROCUMAB, it's approved since July'15 only, but it's a subcutaneous Injection..

You can find about it in details here :

Please discuss with your Doctor if you feel you can take it instead (till now it's reports are quite safe, however since it's a new drug, thus needs time to establish long term benefits versus risks)..

Do let me know if there's any further queries in this regard..

Take Care
Kind Regards
