What are the effective ways to protect from dengue? Ours is an apartment and there are number of incidences of residents falling victim to dengue. What can be done in apartment premises to avoid mosquitoes/flies etc or other potential carrier of dengue

Brief Answer: Stay away from Mosquitos is protection from Dengue Detailed Answer: Dear XXXXXXX Keeping yourself free from mosquitoes is the most effective protection against Dengue. At this point, you need to know that mosquitoes that are active during daytime; those that bite you during day hours are the ones that are likely to cause you dengue (malaria is caused by those that are active late evening and at night). Therefore you need protection against mosquito during day time too. Dengue causing aedes mosquito breeds in fresh water. Therefore all man and natural stored water is a potential areas of dengue virus breeding. You need to look into water tanks, stored water at home and all other water storage areas for mosquito. Call civic authorities to deinfest those areas. Look out for water collections after a rain and make efforts to drain them away. You can apply mosquito repellants to prevent mosquito bites. You may also use mosquito nets, swatters, electric bat and so on to prevent mosquito bites. Mosquito coils, machines and other chemical forumula available in the market can also be an useful source to keep mosquitoes away. Other suggestions that helps in keeping mosquitoes away are: 1. Keeping the doors and windows closed. You may also mesh windows and other portals. 2. Citronella plant has mosquito repellent property. You may look out for this plant at any nursery and grow them near your surrounding. 3. Check out for lavender fragrance candles. Lighting this fragrance candle can keep mosquitoes away.
