What Are The Chances Of HIV Transmission Through Unprotected Vaginal Intercourse?

Posted on Thu, 26 Mar 2015
Question: Hello Doctors, I am an uncircumcised male that had vaginal sex with csw on dec. 12 2014 in South XXXXXXX I was drunk and I remember that the the condom was small and placed while not erected. I had sex for like two minutes with her. I am afraid that part of my inner foreskin was exposed to her fluids while having sex because of the small condom. I asked the csw about her status and she told me that she tested negative in January and as a favor for me she also tested 10 weeks after we had sex, 4th generation combo CMIA hiv test that was also negative. Results were shown to me. At 11 weeks I did rapid clearview at health department (non reactive). Do you think that I should test at 12 weeks or longer for this exposure. Just to add that I have been feeling sick and very depressed for the last 11 weeks. Irritated throat. I also feel that salivary ducts are swollen and body aches. Please help doctor.

Brief Answer:
Nonspecific symptoms. Not due to HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
Welcome to health care magic.
I have gone through the details and can make out your anxiety.

The person is negative for HIV in January and again recently. So the chances of her being HIV positive is almost nil.
The chances of transmission of HIV by unprotected vaginal intercourse with a HIV positive person is 1/200 to 1/1000.So the chances are nil as she is negative.

The rapid clear view test is a sensitive test which detects HIV 1&2 antibodies. It is almost conclusive at 11 weeks. It is better if you can go for Elisa for HIV 1&2 antibodies after 3 months exposure to have conclusive results.
You can allay fears of HIV.

The symptoms are due to stress or anxiety or vitamin deficiencies.
Relax, take some vitamin supplements.
You can get back for any clarification.
