What Are The Chances Of HIV Transmission Through Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Apr 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,

I had a protected sex with a woman.
While doing I byte her breast very strongly.
I am not sure few drops of blood came to my mouth or not.
At the time of exposure I had some itchy kind of sores on the tongue. but minor sores, not bleeding.
If blood comes to my mouth, will that cause HIV to spread? I am worried so much kindly answer.
Because I am getting pain in the above part of the stomach few times of the day since last week and I have some kind of a pain in throat few times as well since last week.
I already have acidity and gas trouble prior to exposure.

The possibility of HIV transmission by oral route is practically NIL. As you do not have any open wound there is no possibility of transmission.
The symptoms may be due to gastritis. Inflammation of the stomach due to high acidity. Not HIV.
You need not worry.
Just forget the episode.

You can get back for any clarification.

Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
These are not specific symptoms of HIV.
Get your wife examined by obg specialist. If necessary investigations will be done.
You also get examined by a doctor for oral and anal symptoms. For the oral ulcers, continue the medications that I wrote earlier. Use Dolo gel if the pain is worsening. You also need to see a ENT doctor.
All these can be due to other causes or infections.
So do not always think of HIV.
If need be get HIV investigations done too.You can allay your fears of HIV.
