What Are The Chances Of HIV Contraction Post Unprotected Intercourse?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Dec 2015
Question: I'm a healthy male, and had unprotected vaginal sex. I got tested through a 10 panel test to include HIV 3 weeks after my encounter, and it came back negative. Am I at risk to catch HIV, and should I get tested again?

You need to repeat the test after 3 months .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you had unprotected vaginal sex and have done screening tests for STD and HIV 3 weeks after exposure .

Normally it takes 1 month to 3 months for HIV test to be positive .Hence you need to repeat the tests after three months to be rest assured about acquiring HIV.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX I appreciate your response. What is the window to get tested with a Gen 4 HIV test? And is this an experience I need to worry about being a low risk event?

Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
You need not worry .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .

Since your blood test done after 3 weeks is negative the test after three months is most likely to be negative,

Do not worry and try to have safe and unprotected sex in future to avoid such mental agony .

Thanks and Regards.
