default
Posted on Tue, 22 Dec 2015
Question: I had unprotected sex on August 22 with a woman. On October 15 I took an STD test and came up with a nonreactive HIV test results. As well as a herpes simplex one non-reactive test results. What are the chances of me having contracted the virus. I have another doctors appointment scheduled for Thursday on December 3 but I'm freaking out. Any chance you could give me some kind of info that would ease my mind

Brief Answer:
High chances test to be negative.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

Firstly I would like to tell you that you must take the test 12 weeks post exposure by 4 th generation ELISA test. You also need to take follow up at 6 months post exposure. Now coming to your case what test you took PCR, ELISA or Rapid? As your test results was negative therefore there is a high chance of test being negative.

Hope I answered your question.
Take care

I have had a chance to look at the test results given and the tests that were performed and came up non-reactive was the HIV AG/AB, 4th GEN and the RPR (DX) W/REFL TITER and confirmatory testing. Is there any more info that you can provide

Brief Answer:
What do you want to know? HIV chance negligible.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

It could be possible allergic reaction or an infection. I would like you to take the tests as advised. Applying triple action cream with steroids, antibacterial and antifungal will be helpful. If any tests as I advised comes positive then we need to change the treatment. The risk of HIV from single unprotected intercourse is less than 0.01%. So I would suggest you not to worry.
What else you want to know.

Best of health
