What Are Changes Of Pregnancy Despite Negative Pregnancy Result?

Question: hi, my question is related to pregnancy. My girlfriend and I had unprotected sexual intercourse once in her cycle. We were both inebriated and don't recall the events to the extent of whether it was vaginal or anal intercourse. Regardless, she was supposed to start her menstruation cycle on March 8-9th. She did not. We both began to worry as we are NOT trying to have a child (and I understand there were precautions that should have been taken but we failed to do so) She is not on any type of birth control. We waited a week to see if the period was just late (which she has said she has once in a while but never a week late). Fast forward to March 15th (1 Week Late) she decided to take a First Response Digital Pregnancy test around 9:00PM. Within minutes it came back negative. Her friend (whose been pregnant) assisted with the test to assure there were no errors. The next morning (March 16th) around 11:00AM, when she woke up, she took another test (also First response Digital). She took it in the morning due to resources stating first morning urine is most accurate. The test came back negative. The next day on March 17th, she took another test, this time using Clear Blue Digital. This test came back negative, but still no period. I should also state she didn't feel any symptoms that are associated with pms or pregnancy throughout this time frame. At this point we had three negative tests and decided we should wait a few days before testing again (giving time for a late period to show up). On March 20th ( 3 days later) she took another Clear Blue Digital test. It came back negative. We decided to visit a doctor for an official pregnancy test for answers on Monday (March 23rd). On March 22 in the morning she went to the bathroom and said she had brownish red blood when she wiped but nothing to serious. We thought this might be late implantation bleeding. She also said she had a small blood clot in the toilet. Later in the day she said she went to the bathroom again and with reddish urine had another blood clot, this one slightly bigger but nothing of great size. On the 23rd, first thing in the morning she took another 3 tests, using the same urine (which was dark, reddish in color) three different brands, (First Response Digital, Clear Blue Traditional + or -, and EPT + or -). All three came back negative, even took pictures of the tests. She said that went she went to the bathroom, an even larger blood clot came out, and she said this one was much bigger. She began to use a pad. She stated for the next 4 days 24-27th she had bleeding not heavy but it was enough for her to change the pad once a day. She stated that today on the 28th, it was very light colored and almost non existent. She believes she had a wacky period and I was in agreement. However, last night (27th) she had a massive migraine, almost debilitating. She took excedrin and seemed to be okay. The next morning at her work she said she still had a slight headache and then someone lit a candle at work and she said it almost made her sick and a bad headache again, which we both think is not normal. We just want an answer one way or another. Am I over thinking this or is she possibly pregnant after 7 negative tests, a "period?", blood clots. I read that implantation bleeding does not have clots in it. Could she have been pregnant and then miscarried? Any advice you can give us would be so helpful. Also i will state that we never ended up going to the doctors, she is a bit squeemish with needles and doctors, however she has agreed that if symptoms like this keep occuring she will visit the doctor next week. This has put a SERIOUS strain on our relationship. Again, any advice would be so helpful. I've been as detailed as I possibly could have been

Brief Answer: Thank you for using HCM, I would love to help Detailed Answer: I understand your anxiety, but I can reassure you that you have nothing to worry about at all. After 7 negative tests and a period, she is absolutely NOT pregnant. it may be possible that she had a very early miscarriage, but regardless it is over now and she is not pregnant. stop driving yourself nuts! and make sure she starts a reliable form of birth control so this doesn't happen again. please feel free to ask follow up questions if you need any more help.

Well that is helpful hearing it from a doctor. I know you said she isn't but like I said the "period" was different then her normal period that she usually gets. Do you think its a waste of time to get a blood test? It will be tough getting her to go but I know she will if a doctor such as yourself suggests it. How do we explain the terrible migraines and sensitivity to Smell to the candle? Thanks again. Believe me I don't want her to be and want to stop going nuts I just don't get it.

Brief Answer: It's ok, I understand what you re going through Detailed Answer: there are several possible explanations for the symptoms, and one of them is that it was an erly miscarriage and that the pregnancy caused them. if that is the case, then the symptoms should resolve on their own soon. another possibility is that the period was delayed due to stress or some unknown cause, and that the hormonal fluctuations associated with te delayed period is causing the symptoms. it also could be that they are are completely unrelated and are due to something else entirely. my guess is that they will probably resolve soon enough. however, if they persist, she ahoild see her doctor. I also don't believe that there is any advantage in getting a blood test for pregnancy at the doctor. the urine tests and the period are more than enough proof. let me know if you need any more help.
