Question: Hi,
My baby is 7 weeks old and have by mistake given overdose of domstal , 1ml for 3 times of 10mg/ml instead of 1mg/ml.Have given this dose for 4-5 times. My doctor said not to worry but wanted to know if there are any long term side effects.

The only thing I noticed is that the baby slept for long hours whenever I have given overdose.

Brief Answer:
May cause some abnormal posturing - no serious long term side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... I understand your concern. Please be rest assured that there are no serious long term side effects related to domperidone. As such as you have given an acute high dose. The symptoms which you need to be on the lookout for are - drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, twitching, muscle rigidity, and irregular heartbeat.

This muscular rigidity might manifest itself as abnormal posturing of the baby. Sometimes the baby might arch back and stay in that position for few minutes. But all these effects will get over as the drug level in the blood recedes.

hHope this helps. If you have any further queries regarding this I will be glad to answer.

Regards - Dr. Sumanth
