default
Posted on Thu, 22 May 2014
Question: My cousin is of age 25 and he got some kind of ulcer in his mouth 3 months back. We contacted ENT and he said that stress has increased in the mouth and suggested ORAWAYS (Triamcinolone Acetonide Buccal paste) ointment. he got relief with that ointment. But now after 3 months it started again. We contacted the same doctor and this time he recommonded for blood test and after seeing the report he said everything is normal and suggested the same ointment. Please let us know what exactly the problem could be?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There can be various causes of oral ulcers of which any irritant in the oral cavity like sharp tooth margin is one of the common. Stress related ulcers are also quite common. Aphthous ulcers are also a form of ulcers which have a red centre with whitish margins and are painful. Viral infections can also lead to ulceration of the oral cavity.

Other than these, life style related ulcers like use of tobacco products are common. Dietary deficiencies are lead to ulceration in the oral cavity.

As your ulcer responded to Triamcinolone gel, the chances of some serious problem is less.

Still, please go for a complete dental examination, ENT examination and if there is any irritant or focus of infection in the oral cavity, get it treated.

Please stop using tobacco in any form, if you use it and try to lead a stress free life, do some relaxation exercises.

Use of Triamcinolone gel along with an antiseptic mouth wash and a B complex.

Also if some constipation is there, use of high fibre diet will be helpful in solving the problem.

If the ulcer does not heal, a biopsy from the ulcer may be required.

Feel free to ask another query.

Regards
