Weight Loss, Loose Stools With Mucus, Lumps On Abdomen, Stomach Tightness, Diabetic, Blood Count And Stool Samples Normal. Bowel Cancer ?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jun 2012
Question: Hi I am a 30 year old male, who is petrified that I may have bowel cancer.
I have lost weight in the past 3 months from 18stone to 17.7 which I have never done in my life.
I have noticed that as I am a diabetic, I have fecal pods in my stools which looks like my tablet has not got in my system or something has been blocking it from working.
My stools are not solid anymore and mostly loose with lots of mucus sometimes I see mucus with like a plastic casin attached to it.
I seem to also pass lots amounts of urine.
I have also noticed some lumps in and around my belly button which seems to block my stomach from being relaxed. My stomach seems very tight under my ribs causing me discomfort.

I am a big worrier and always have been and now I am constantly monitoring my weight every 5 mins.

Also in my stool I have noticed that if I have a semi hard stool formed it has streaks of yellow on it too.

Lately I have suffered from insect bites and a big absess but I am utterly scared I have cancer but nobody believes me. I have been to my own docs who says it simply ibs, but I know you dont lose weight in ibs.

I have had a full blood count done and stool samples sent off but not sure what the doc was looking for but they have all come back fine.

What can my problems be. I keep crying my eyes out and petrified with worry

Hi XXXXXXX
Sorry for the late reply.

First, i will have a quick look at you questions and your history.

Well first thing i need to re assure you that the symptoms you have could be of cancer but there are many more common and simpler diseases that have similar symptoms.

Also about you loosing weight, i need to tell you, diabetes can make you loose weight .Moreover even stress could lead the same.

But answering this doesnt mean that i end my answer. Looking at your symptoms, i would suggest you to first reassure yourself and have some kind of relaxation methods like yoga and pranayams. ( traditional indian way of relaxation of the body physiology)

Now about the second part, after you quit thinking and worrying i would advice some change in food style.

Use more of soluble fibers like benefibers (OTC drug).

Evaluated yourself by colonoscopy also.

Let me know all you details of blood pressure, pulse and sugar levels, also if feasible even hba1c.

Hope i have answered your query.I will be available for follow up.

Thanks

Hi thanks for the reply, my sugar levels were high with my diabetes used to be 12.2 but I have been monitoring closely lately and they seem to range between 4.5-8.8.

I have bupa health in work so i have arranged a colonoscopy next week, The specialist I saw yesterday felt my stomach as they do and couldnt find nothing even the gloved finger.

He thinks my diabetes control may cause it but I keep thinking the dreaded C. I am so scared I cant even live a normal life no more I just break down and cry.

Is 7lbs a lot of weight to lose if you dont normally lose that amount of weight.

Its stuck in my head I have cancer and cant think about anything else.
As I have lost weight would this mean it would be in the advanced stage and no chance of a cure.

These balls of fat or lumps inside my belly button any idea what they can be?

Hello.

Thanks for writing again.

well first thing, if I have to simply judge you without any evidences and with just your history and my experience, I can tell you that you aren't having any cancer. but modern medicine works on evidences and we would wait for Colonoscopy for that.

Second thing, 7lb is not a significant weight loss. It could be associated with your Diabetes also.

Well the third part about the fear of cancer, I guess you need to relax and talk it out with your friends and take a vacation and not think about it

Forth part, the balls of fat around your belly button, I would like to know some more things to guide you better on it.

Is it in the wall or inside the abdomen?
Was Ultrasound abdomen performed for the same reason?

Please reply to my questions above to suggest you better.

I hope I have answered your query.

Wish you good health.

Regards.

Hi again, I hope I dont have cancer as I know I wouldnt be able to cope, i just keep thinking i'm dying, been so depressed for over a year now.

These balls of fat, I can feel them inside and around my belly button, some feel like a oblong and when you push them down they seem to click a bit. They seem to go around the hole of my belly button and to the right hand side.

I went to my docs ages ago about these and my doc just said lipoma, but they cant make me lose weight or block there can they.

My stomach is tight under the ribs and the oval like shape of my obesity only comes up to where these balls are.

Every time I eat or drink it doesnt go down to my lower belly like it used to and just makes my stomach at the top tighter and bloatier even more.

I have tried talking to my parents and keep telling them its cancer but they dont believe me but know I am not well.

With regards to my weight loss, I know I have lost 7lbs over 3 months which is nothing really but to me its a real concern as I could never do that.

My head is all over the place. I am getting the colonscopy done on private but if they need to do biopsies then I cannot afford to pay for them so I will be left to suffer.

Would the prep for the colonscopy make me lose even more weight.

What are the chances of me having cancer? if it is cancer and I have lost weight already wouldnt that mean uncureable.

I have also had a stomach xray and a abdominal xray which hospital found nothing, and also the gloved finger by the specialist and couldnt feel nothing also.

On the xrays would tumours show up, apparently I am not anemic either as I have had the bloods for them.

Would you know why my own GP suggested IBS? I have read thats the easy way out.

I would like to mention that I dont have constant diarrhoea but when I go its juicy sometimes with a yellow tinge on a mushy poo. Sometimes I can see like plastic with mucus underneath. Could my problems be something of giardiasis some doctors on here suggest I may have but my own gp done nothing when I mention it to him.

I also mentioned to him that I think cancer but he just kept saying I was too young and had no family history, ( my dads grandmother had it)

I also have stretch marks all over my chest where I have lost my weight, it looks gross.

I have had a stool sample done but even that showed no abnormailities wouldnt cancer show in that.

Im petrified with a capital P

Hello again and sorry for the late reply.

Well we need to wait till your colonoscopy first.
Moreover about the grumpy feeling in your tummy could be gastroparesis ( a stomach paresis due to diabetes ) but further analysis of your case can be done personally and difficult to analysis with a distance communication.

Hence i would suggest you to consult the specialist who can examine and come to a conclusion which will help you , Do discuss with him about my ideas presented above.

Wish you good health.

Hi again its ok about late reply you must be a busy man. Can i ask why you thonk ot could be cancer. I seen my own gp yesterday and he says these things in my belly are fat nodules. Why would they appear as can they cause obstruction.

What you think the chances are that i have cancer and if i do have it would you say that i am in the advanced stage with no cure. My gp still thinks ibs or my metformin tablet causing the problem but i been on them for over 3 years now

Hello.

Thanks for writing again.

Well I am not thinking that it could be a cancer but the international protocol suggest a routine Colonoscopy to be carried out. We are not just thinking of one pathology, there could be other pathology also.

About Lipoma (the fat nodules on your tummy), well its very normal, lots of people have them and they are not XXXXXXX or life threatening. Medically not needed to be removed but cant be commented unless I examine them personally.

The chances of you having a cancer would be dependent on lots of factors including your age, your race, sex, location, family history, your own medical diseases, and many other such factor. But by saying that this chances are general incidence and prevelance of cancer in popullation.

Well, about the staging of cancer, I think you are thinking too much and probably first thing you need is a colonoscopy to confirm the diagnosis.

Without any investigation, even I would agree with your GP that you have IBS, and more aggrevated due to diabetic status also.

I hope, this helps to solve your queries.

Wish you good health.

Regards.
