Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back.
We actually use proton pump inhibitors (PPI's) for the treatment of GERD. SSRI's are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are usually used for psychiatric disorders like depression.
To answer your question, lansoprazole and pantoprazole are some of the best PPI's we have today. You are receiving Zoton which has lansoprazole and I think it is good enough.
Also, a very important part of managing GERD is lifestyle change. This would involve the following:
a. Eating small meals every 3-4 hours
b. Avoiding a late and heavy dinner. There should atleast be a 2 hours gap between dinner and the time you hit the bed.
c. Avoid excessive caffeine ( found in tea and coffee), alcohol and smoking

Alkaline water is definitely not a good idea. Any extremes of pH are bad for your body and in fact alkaline substances can severely damage your esophagus ( food pipe) and stomach. Please avoid it completely.

Let me know if I can address any more concerns
Sincerely

Any such thing should be approved by the apex body FDA. As you can read it the manufacturers claim that they are researching on this and still in nascent stages. We go to see the negative affects of having water at ph 8 and above. Any product should be labelled to be safe upon analyzing the benefits vs risks. They hope to improve the product and get a nod from FDA.

Ironically you are reading in market watch where the motive is marketing without physiology details in the human body.

Till then these kind of products do not cut the ice amongst medical community. You can do a simple trial of consuming a glass of water with pinch of salt in it for few days as it brings in alkalinity to it.
