Before I get into the actual answer for your query I wish to give some general information too. Most important causes of erectile dysfunction are stress, interpersonal factors, depression, marital disharmony, performance anxiety, few are neurogenic disorders affecting the parasympathetic nerves such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, few are due to hormonal imbalance like androgen deficiency, hypothyroidism and few are induced by alcohol, cocaine, smoking, ageing.

In your case, Diabetes may be one of the possible reason but all the other causes need to be ruled out before initiating proper treatment. There are few medications like Sildenafil, Valdenafil etc, that can help for your problem but should be used under direct supervision of your treating doctor and only after proper physical examination excluding other possible conditions. Moreover, these kind of medications do have some side effects and interactions with various other drugs which need to be regularly monitored and these are the reasons why they need to considered only after physical consultation with the doctor.

Meantime, I advice you to keep your blood sugar levels under strict control in order not to cause more damage and avoid stress, depression and anxiety. There is a lot of stress involved hence your blood sugar is not yet under control. You need to XXXXXXX a Psychologist or counselor to address this. There is a lot of participation expected from you before you actually start showing normal results.

As I said the above drugs are good to start with but only under guidance of the treating physician.

Hope this helps!

Dear Sir,

I dont hv any habit/ problem like depression, marital disharmony, performance anxiety, multiple sclerosis (???),alcohol, cocaine, smoking, ageing. (my age 58 yrs). So far as control of blood sugar is concerned. I stated last month report
In feb I had a package check up at Appollo clinic in vizag, where in
I had fastin 97 and other factors like ecg, chest x-ray were normal
as per doctor's remarks. They advised me to have regular and periodical check up. As far as suggested medicines by you, should I oontact my Hospital
doctor or should I try. what would be the side effects, Shall they cause
increase in blood sugar levels or cause any other problem.
Just seeking yr guidance.

Thank you

Good to hear from you again! I was just listing all the possible causes for that particular problem. I am happy that you are not having any of those.

Coming to the medicines, you HAVE to contact the hospital and should not take on your own. Side effects and drug interactions vary from person to person based on physical examination and coexisting conditions. However, increase in blood sugar is not a possible side effect. In addition to medicines, counseling, behavioral therapies also need to be considered to address these kind of issues.

Actually, I should admit that the erectile dysfunction if solely caused by longstanding diabetes is little difficult to treat. That was the reason why I was advising you to keep your blood sugar level under strict control in order to prevent any further damage.

Hope it helps!
