Brief Answer:
Best treatment is medicine plus counselling

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

I like to inform you that most addictions need both medicines and counselling to have good results and a single method of treatment is rarely effective. With only medications only 30 percent achieve complete deaddiction.

I mean to say that there is definite need for personal consultation rather than asking for medications.

In regard to medications there are three options available in XXXXXXX

First the supplemental nicotine which is available in form of gum patches as well as lounges. The dose is depend on the amount of cigarettes smoked by your father.

The second is bupropion which is used in dose range of 300 to 450 mg per day. It is anticraving agent and prevents relapse to smoking.

The third is chantrix (verenicline) which acts again as anticaraving medication.

I prefer combination of one and two or three in addition to counselling. These are quite safe and effective.

I request you to see a psychiatrist in your city with clear target to achieve remission for smoking.
He will guide him through both medication as well as counselling part.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards
