Suggest Ways To Manage Fluctuating Blood Sugar Levels

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Aug 2015
Question: I am so sorry but I wanted to talk to you a week ago for my blood sugar. In fact it decreased a little bit but it is not really like before ... Of course I stopped that diet pill but I think it was really bad for me to take it ... Not only I didn't lose any weight but it apparently unstabilized my blood sugar so hopefully it will be back to normal soon. If you have a hint for me to keep my blood sugar as low as possible I would really appreciate to hear it ... !!!
Apart from that I am doing good and I want to thank you very much for your care and your quick response. "Merci beaucoup" ...!!!
Very kindly, XXXX

Merci Beaucoup.....XXXX!

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I am happy to hear that your blood sugar dropped a little and you have stopped the pill. I am optimistic it will get better with more efforts.

The best ways to maintain blood sugar low is regular exercise, healthy diet, and good weight control. To me, avoid aggressive measure like taking pills for weight control because most of them are not effective in the longterm. I encourage you to take small steps, make small changes and be consistent. As long as you stay physically active, doing at least 45mins of exercise on most days of the week, eating healthy and making sure you do not add on more weight, you will slowly over time achieve this goal. Follow a gentle and progressive approach!

I speak and write French as well. Unfortunately, I cannot do so on this site for professional reasons. Please, avoid closing the discussion before you have had the chance to ask all your questions because you shall be disconnected from me. However, you can always ask that your question should be directed to me.

Until next, I wish you well and always remember am available and more than happy to address your health questions!

Thank you so much for your detailed answer ... For your information I did a week ago some blood tests and as I was expecting my A1C was 6.3 instead of 6.2 my regular A1C ... Do you think it could go back to my number ... Actually I am even trying to decrease it even lower which is hard but I do all to make it ... My problem is really due to an ablation of a part of my pancreas due to my endocrine tumor removed successfully 5 years ago .... But I do jogging sport 4 times a week in general and I do excercise in the fitness center 2 or 3 times a week. Also in our building we have a pool so I swim from time to time ...So question "Excercises" I do very well ... With my husband we eat healthy ... He is a PhD in internal medicine and research so I have great help too ... lots of vegetables, fruits, fish, chicken and not too much red meat although I love it ... But I have to do what I have to do ... All my tests were good but I had another problem ... my cholesterol was high ... 260 ... HDL 55 ... LDL 181 ... TRYGLYCERIDES 120 ...!!! And I never eat fats or junk food ... so it is really incredible but ...!!!
My endocrinologist told me that she was surprised that the HDL & TRIGLYCERIDES were normal even good but the LDL very high ... So she told me to cut on the butter and on the cheese ... which I really like ... you can imagine as a French born national ... So I will do that but if you have another advice I would be very happy to hear it and to listen to any advice of yours ...!!!

Thank you so much for your care! Looking forward to hearing from you in a near future ... Very kindly, XXXX

Hi,

I understand what it means restricting dairy products from French born National....However, we eat to be healthy and not the other way around, Because these food types will not help you safeguard good health, I will say same.

Am glad to hear you have tremendous social support in your husband. My regards to him and tell him I say thumbs up for the good job.

Exercise is the best kept secret to good health. Do as much as you can or at minimum, 150minutes of structured exercises weekly. For sure, this will help.

Your A1C to me is good. Prevention is better than cure and am happy you are doing just that with your blood sugars. However, treatment of diabetes has greatly improved over the years and diabetes enjoy almost same quality of life as healthy persons.

Regards

Dear Dr. Ditah,
Sorry for the delay to respond but yesterday I was at work and I tried to answer you on my iphone but it wouldn't let me ... asking me for my password ... I guess it didn't recognize me on my cell ... Technology sometimes is too much ...!!
Anyway thank you so much for your detailed answer full of encouragement and I have to say that I am so happy to have met you online because you are just a wonderful doctor ... You made me feel so positive and less depressed ... So with you and my husband I am in good hands ... and of course I will restrict my diet from cheese and butter and see what happens in one month ... my next order for blood test or maybe one month and a half as advised by my husband, XXXXXXX Also I have to do more sport because you said 150 mn /week ... I think I am doing only 120 mn /week ... So ...!
... I had too much since 2009 but thanks God for 5 years now all seems to stay stable ... I just did all my annual scans and exams in March and all my doctors were very happy and satisfied telling me that I was their miracle ...!! So... Thank you for your moral help and I shall keep you posted once I do other medical exams ...!!!
With all my thanks and appreciation I am looking forward to continuing our relation for keeping me as healthy as possible ... !!!

Dear Dr. Ditah,
Thank you for your words but I am really sincere and I feel so comfortable with you talking about all my medical worries ... I just have a question that I totally forgot to ask you ... I wonder why my blood sugar is always elevated in the morning at 6 am, time that I wake-up every day except on the weekends.
Every evening I eat at around 7 pm ending at 7.30 pm and then at around 9 pm I drink usually a mint tea but no food. So I don't understand why my blood sugar would be like most of the time between 112 and 125 ... It is a big mystery because with no food my level should be lower ... !!! I don't understand and if you have a little advice for me to do something to help decreasing these morning numbers I would really appreciate ...!!!
Thanking you in advance, Dr. Ditah.

XXXX

Dr. Ditah,

Here are my blood sugar results for 5 days as you requested ... I am shocked by the night results that I have never taken in my life ... Very high and I really don't understand ... maybe you have an answer ...!!!

Thursday 6am:110 5.20pm: 102 11.20pm: 125
Friday 6am: 104 1pm: 116 4.30pm: 94 Restaurant: no reading
Saturday 9.30am: 119 5.00pm: 101 11.20pm: 120
Sunday 8.30am: 126 5.30pm: 117 11.00pm: 132
Monday 6am: 144 ? 12.30pm:106 5.00pm: 92 11.00pm: 153 ??
Tuesday 6am: 118 12.30pm:102 5.00pm: 103 10.00pm: 167 ???
Wednesday 6am: 109

It depressed me so much although my Doctor told me not to worry because my A1C is 6.3 and far from worry ...!!
I am wondering what advice you can give me to decrease my blood sugar and an explanation why the blood sugar is so elevated at night. I had dinner every night at 7 pm while I was doing this test .... and my dinner consists in salad mixed with tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, carrots and avocados ... a small piece of white of chicken and cooked vegetables like zucchinis, small white potatoes, yam and peppers ... So all very healthy and coffee at the end of each meal ... So I really don't understand what I have to do better than that ... !!!

Thank you Dr. Ditah to give me a plausible or logic solution and looking forward to hearing from you in a very near future.
Warm thoughts

Brief Answer:
You need to put an eye on these numbers!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this detailed report and numbers.

I have reviewed the information fully. Your evening numbers are concerning and even the early morning numbers. Though they are not diagnostic of diabetes, they put you in a state of prediabetes. This is not for you to panic but for you to act before the numbers get worse. One good thing is that with the current diet, lifestyle and exercise that you have adopted, it will take a very long time for these numbers to get worse. they may not be perfect but we are doing the perfect things.

For now, same measures will apply. If they get worse, we will consider further measures. Also, remember your pancreas is not at 100% and we should not expect a 100% job performance as well from the pancreas. However, it is still doing good and you are not diabetic.

I will say, monitor your sugar just once a month now in the early mornings. Detailed testings are not for persons without diabetes. If we catch any number which is more than 126, then we will certainly need to monitor closely and intervene.

Knowing something isn't too right is an opportunity to act on for improvement or to delay further deterioration. That is where we are and we have reasons to be more hopeful than being disappointed with the numbers.

Until next, i wish you well and always available.
