Question: I have a 10+ months old baby. My wife breast feed her apart form other foods. But since birth, the breast milk is not sufficient, hence baby is also given Dexolac. My wife was prescribed Lactare from childbirth, but no improvement is seen, hence she left having lactare. She had C-Section and had no complication during childbirth. So, what can be the problem becuase I intend that my child gets breast milk till the age of 5 years if possible because I think breast milk to be the best medicine in this age of diseases. But we are repaetedly failing to give our baby sufficient breast milk

Brief Answer:
Continue breastfeeding more frequently

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Can understand your concerns.

Breast milk output depends on two factors, one is emotional attachment which occurs when mother holds the baby and feeds her, second is the act of breastfeeding, the more mother feeds the baby, more milk output will be there.

After 6 months of age, breastfeeding is alone not sufficient and complimentary food is necessary. More energy, fats and protein are required so breastfeeding along with complimentary foods should be done.

I suggest you to continue breastfeeding because it will result in more milk output but at this age complimentary foods will be more important.

Breastfeeding should be continued till 3 years of age.

There are some medicines like lactare but they will help only temporarily. So, i think that medicine is not required for this. Just continue more breastfeeding and everything will be allright.

I hope this will help you.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.
