Question: Hello,
Happy Holidays!!!

Since my last visitation, I've been feeling slightly better, except that I can't gain weight no matter what I eat. Certain food causes me to have bloating, gas, loose stools, diarrhea, food/mucus in stools and cramps in lower belly. I have tried to changing my diet to healthier foods and supplementing with probiotics and vitamin D. Lately, I think i have a leaky gut as I react to certain processed foods and am having skin problems with boils and pimples as if my body is trying to rid of something, besides my bad postnasal drip and sore throat ( thinking due to vitamin deficiency). I have an appointment with a nutritionists this Friday so that they can help me select better healthier food to cure my SIBO and absorb nutrients naturally and regain my health and normal weight. Although, i am very depressed and not sleeping well due to stress and my health.

Brief Answer:
Crohns disease can be the reason of your symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

I am not sure if your symptoms are caused by SIBO. Have you had any stool culture test? Did you get any treatment?
Your symptoms can be caused by something more serious. Especially that is has started few weeks ago (according to your previous queries). And it does not seem to get any better.
Please note that disease which caused skin problems along with intestinal problems is known as inflammatory bowels disease (Crohns disease). This issue is caused by immune system wrong reaction to host cells (it is called autoimmune disease). So you may get skin lesions, joint pains along with abdominal cramp, bloating, diarrhea with mucus and blood.
This condition can not be cured by any diet change. Moreover, left without treatment can cause serious complications (including bowels obstruction).
That is why I strongly recommend you to consult gastrologist and have colonoscopy done.

If this test will be negative, you should be treated with Rifaximine (special antibiotic for SIBO).

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Hi Doctor,

I was tested for Crohns, celiac, parasites, colitis and all test came back negative. Please note that the symptoms did not start recently but rather since July of 2014. One gastro diagnosed me with SIBO and i took antibiotics but no matter what i do or eat i am not getting any better. I feel like my body is not fully absorbing the food that i eat.

Also note that i already had a colonoscopy and it was fine, nothing unusual. I am scheduled for an endoscopy in two weeks.

Any advice??? Additional testings that my Doctor can run to rule out anything serious?

Brief Answer:
Chronic pancreatitis and partial bowels obstruction should be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
As you have had so many tests, it will be really hard to help you from the point of this service. But here are some thoughts of what else can be done:
- amylase and lipase levels, abdominal CT to rule out chronic pancreatitis (this condition gives abdominal pains after a meal and fatty stools, stools with undigested foods)
- Rifaximine treatment (it should be tried, this antibiotic works in the digestive tract only, does not get absorbed)
- enteroclysis (abdominal CT with oral contrast) to see small intestine condition (partial bowels obstruction can cause described by you pains along with diarrhea)

Regards.
