an exhaustive approach is required

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and after reviewing your case history I'm of the following opinion:

1. high blood pressure [hypertension] is one of the biggest underlying risk factors for the development of heart disease so consult a Medicine Specialist or Cardiologist for proper physical examination and necessary investigation(s) and also to make sure that whether it is Acute, Chronic or Acute on Chronic or Malignant Hypertension.

2. was there any undue physical/mental stress in recent days? and since lipid profile is slightly deranged thus associated risk factors has to be excluded like your weight, lifestyle [active or sedentary], thyroid profile, blood sugar level, any addiction [to caffeine/fat]?

3. Any family history of the same?

4. . Till the laboratory investigations and Health Examinations are done you can incorporate following dietary Regime and Lifestyle changes in your daily routine

i. LOW SALT DIET

. Total salt intake should not exceed 2.5 gm per day
. No extra salt should be taken during meals.
. Use Losalt, where salt is essential
. Avoid salt rich foods: pickles, papads, sauce, cheese, salted butter/biscuits/ peanuts-cashews/butter milk, popcorns, wafers, preserved/tinned food. [Make sure high protein diet is taken in moderation]

ii. LOW FAT DIET

. Avoid saturated oils [coconut oil, dalda, butter, ghee, cream] instead use monosaturated oils [olive oil] or polyunsaturated oils [sunflower, corn oil]
. Avoid all deep fried foods, unskimmed milk, and meat.
. Increase fiber intake i.e. leafy vegetables, salads, fruits, pulses, and legumes.
. Use skimmed milk or double toned low-fat milk.

iii. Since high cholesterol is an additional concern thus incorporate following in your Diet Manual [which will also take care of Blood pressure]

i. Do’s :
. Cereals: take old brown rice, maize, barley,
. Pulses: chickpea, pigeon pea, green gram, horse gram,
. Fruits & Vegetables: brinjal, drum stick [shigru], black grapes, mosumbi.
. Others: butter milk [not salted], cardamom, intake of water before meals, food substances with pungent, bitter and astringent taste.

. Lifestyle: physical exercise, night awakening, massage with medicated powder, sunlight exposure, bathing with lukewarm water.

ii. Don't:
. Cereals: Newly harvested rice, wheat.
. Pulses: Black gram
. Fruits & Vegetables: potato, sweet potatoes, beets, yam, nuts, fruits with sweet pulp like chickoos, bananas and green grapes.

. Others: milk, curd, meat, fish, clarified butter, jaggery, intake of water after meals

. Life style: bathing with cold water, day sleeping, luxurious life style, oil massage.

iii. Develop healthy eating habits:

. Do not eat only 2 large meals a day. It leads to overeating due to hunger. Take snacks in between. It is advisable to eat a good breakfast and light lunch and dinner.

. Keep a quiet and pleasant atmosphere in the dining hall. Watching TV while eating, talking, arguments, angry discussions all lead to overeating.

. Eat slowly; chewing each bite thoroughly gives a feeling of satiation.

. Do not be tempted to finish up the leftovers.

. Use nonstick cooking ware for cooking

iv. Add 1 spoon smashed fenugreek seeds and boil in 4 cups of water, till 1 cup remains. Filter it and add 4 spoons honey and drink for 1 month

Brief Answer:
further necessary clarification

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back

1. Since high blood pressure is a psychosomatic disorder [mnodaihik vikar] thus tranquility of mind is important thus give Brahmi Vati: 2 at night [can be taken along with modern medicine]

2. Although there is no clinical study/trial on drug interaction of both pathies still your attending physician must be informed about any change/alteration/ combination of medicine:

3. Three drugs which I always suggest/prescribe to my patient(s) even on modern medicine is/are:

i. Arjunarishta which is a CARDIOTONIC [giving strength to the muscles of the heart and also boost the immune system]
ii. Ashwagandharishta which is a NERVINE TONIC [calming the mind]

PS. As the prescription covers both the Psychosomatic part of hypertension thus will be very effective in controlling the symptoms and the third drug prepared by me is in capsule form [containing arjuna and pushkarmoola], you can order that [if interested] since they won’t be having any cross reaction with modern medicine.

4. yoga will reduce STRESS induced high blood pressure thus poses like: Badhkonasana [bound angle pose], virasana [hero pose], Upavista Konasana [wide angle seated forward bend], Adhomukha Shavasana [downard facing dog pose], Uttanasana [standing forward bend pose], Setu Bandh Sarvangasana [bridge pose] are effective whereas avoiding pose like: dahnurasana [bow pose], XXXXXXX asana [peacock pose], shirshasana [headstand pose]
