Brief Answer:
Relaxation techniques.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.

The Anxiety symptoms can be controlled by relaxation techniques like slow and deep breathing, meditation and progressive muscle relaxation.
If the symptoms are not controlled with these techniques, then antianxiety drugs can be used.

Negative thoughts can be turned into positive thoughts by challenging them.
You need to ask yourself that how rational these thoughts are? Am I thinking excessively? How are these thoughts affecting my life?

With this and similar questions you can challenge the negative thoughts and find a positive alternative for it.

If you can give detail about your anxiety symptoms and negative thoughts, I can further help you in a more directive manner to manage those.

Wish you well.

Regards.

Hi Doctor,

From last 5 months , i am living with fear of contacting Hiv. Even after negative test results at 37 days and 87 days ( negative elisa , pcr rna , hepb and c , vldr , hsv 1-2) and consulted with 6-7 doctors ( XXXXXXX internal medicine doctors from XXXXXXX , appolo, vedanta and few other reputed hospitals , Dr. XXXXXXX and Dr.Bhartesh D basti from healthcare magic) all suggested me my test are conclusive and no need to fear at all.
But my symptoms are not going down , infact its more severe these days.
From last two months m experiencing below symptoms:
1- occassionally /sometime long breathing discomfort(like something choking).
2- Mild pain in multiple body parts ( head, fingers, legs , palm).
3- Constantly checking my body if any changes.(mouth , hands , neck etc etc)
4- Feeling fatigue and disappointed all the time.
5- while walking feeling faint sometimes.
6-Throat discomfort sometimes
No fever , lymph node ,no loose motion and other Ars symptoms at all with negative hiv test results.
Due to guilt of what i have done 5 months back , I quit smoking and drinking 5 months back ( nxt day of my wrong decision).
Now my heart is 100 accepting that i am free from disease but fear of hiv and security of my family thoughts are killing me everyday.
I dont want to go for another test but not getting idea of how to stablise these physical symtoms hence need expert councelling.

U might have similar cases like me and help me to get out of these prolong trauma.

Brief Answer:
Search for statistics as detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Thanks for the details.
Dear, I understand your concerns.

First, I feel you must have received lots of re-assurances from many specialists. So, I am not going to give you another one, because its not working for you.

I have following suggestions for you:
1. As your anxiety ad depressive symptoms are affecting your social and personal life, there is a need for drug treatment. This will definitely help you to reduce your symptoms.

2. I believe that no re-assurances will work for you now. Rather, you yourself can convince you. I suggest you to search out the causes (other then HIV) for your symptoms of pain at multiple body sites, fatigue and fainting. List these causes in order of their occurrence, from most common to least common and observe HIV is at what place.

3. Also try to find out how many people, who have all the negative tests related to HIV, develop AIDS.

This might be a tiring task for you, but with this, you will develop self re-assurances.

4. Practice relaxation techniques which I mentioned earlier. As your mind will become calm, you will be able to think more rationally.

If you find talking to me comfortable here, I will be happy to counsel and assist you, whenever you need it.

Or, you can find a psychiatrist near for the same.

Hope you will share your findings with me and we will further work on your conclusions.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Such symptoms are very common.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
I have seen many patients who have such symptoms. They develop health related anxiety for no reason inspite of all negative tests.

Anxiety can cause symptoms matching to any disorder. The characteristic feature of anxiety is that all tests come out to be negative and even then patients have multiple symptoms.

It can easily cause palpitations, breathlessness, dizziness, blurring of vision, pain at multiple body sites, tingling, numbness, weakness etc etc.

As your thoughts about contracting HIV must have increased in last two weeks, that's why your anxiety symptoms have become severe. This is very common.

I understand your concerns. I would request you to not worry and practice to divert your mind. I know its easier said than done. But once you diverting your mind, you can slow conquer over your negative thoughts.

I am always available for your assistance, if you have any problems in future.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Exercises as detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Thanks for the update.

Good to know that you have started exercises and meditation.

I would recommend a 30 minute brisk walk for 5 days a week for you. This should be sufficient. Prefer to go for a walk in morning in a nearby garden and not on a treadmill in gym or house.

For relaxation, you can practice slow and deep breathing exercises.
Breath in while you count to 5 slowly, hold for the count of 3 and then exhale for the count of 5. You can do it 5 times in a single sitting. Repeat it for 3-4 times in a day.

It's okay if you do not wish to take SSRIs for now. Hopefully, exercises will help you in reducing your anxiety.

This might take time, say 3-4 months atleast to neutralize your anxiety.

Hope this helps.
I wish you well.
Thanks.
