Suggest Treatment To Remove Mole On Hand

Posted on Tue, 24 Nov 2015
Question: Hi,

I have a question i recently noticed a very small freckle/mole on the back of my hand. I am really not sure if its new or was there before. It is very small, round and on the surface of the skin, so you cant feel it on the skin as it is flat. It smooth round the edges, round and dark brown. I am a 31 year old male with no family history. It is very small, like a dot. Is it possible for small moles or freckles to just appear? As as I say I am not sure if it was there before or not. Please advise? thanks

Brief Answer:
Yes,possible

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

As per the facts you posted here,I can tell that it is quite possible to get new mole/freckle at adulthood.

Some people may continue to get new moles and changing moles until they are around 35 years of age.

There is no cause for concern unless they become raised, itchy, are not even or they become darker.

We generally use an "ABCD" mnemonic for the features of moles that are concerning:

Asymmetry - the mole is not round and even.
Irregular Borders - the edges are not well defined.
Color - may have multiple colors within the same mole.
Diameter - usually larger than a pencil eraser.
Evolving - getting smaller or larger, changing color, itching or bleeding, becoming raised.

You seem to be having normal mole but the single look at the picture of that mole will confirm it.So,if it is possible then send high resolution image of that mole.

hope this will help you.

Dr.Sandip Kabra

Hello,

Thanks for your response. I am not sure when it appeared but I have read that if moles appear after 30 years of age then they could be something else? Is this correct or can they appear at any time? Also can you confirm you are able to see the picture and it looks like a normal mole?

Brief Answer:
Mole can appear at any age.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome again,

1) Yes,Moles can occur at any age but they are quite uncommon after the age 35 to 40 years. That is why I mentioned it ,mole can appear up to the age of 35 years but still they can be beyond that age.

Means if new mole has been noticed at the visible part of body area then I would say it is not abnormal.

2) Yes,I can see the picture you uploaded and I have seen it very carefully even by enlarging the picture. We can see there is small red dot left upper side of that mole. And one vein is passing between that red dot and mole.So no need to bother about.

From the visual inspection it is a typical mole and nothing else.

Still any doubt then just let me know.

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for the information the red dot is actually from when i burnt my hand with frying oil many many years ago so it is actually from a scar and has been there for a long time. It is just the mole that I noticed, as I say I am not sure if it was there before or not. Does it look really small to you, and with skin cancers you described the symptoms above but this does not look like that does it?

Brief Answer:
No,this mole looks normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the quick reply.

As we discussed this mole looks to be normal from the picture as like other moles in the body.

It does not show any signs or symptoms like 'ABCD' mnemonic.

Also it does not matter whether you have earlier noticed this mole or not.at present it is completely normal,so need not to bother about it.

However, you can watch for if that mole turns unexpectedly larger or changes its color or their margin become raised or pain or itching etc.

But the chances of malignancy or cancer is rare in case of mole.

Hope this will clear your doubt.
