Suggest Treatment To Remove Dark Spots On Head Of Penis

Posted on Fri, 26 Sep 2014
Question: How do I get rid of these 2 dark colored spots on the head of my penis which are from getting caught in my zipper when I was zipping up my pants when I was little. Also, I have some discolored skin on the shaft of my penis, what can get rid of that? Is it considered a age spot? Also, are small bumps along the shaft and balls considered normal?

I posted some 13 megapixel pictures up now (The ones in the PDF were only 5 megapixels). I hope they are good enough to come to a conclusion and give me an answer about getting rid of the spots, discoloration, and even bumps if possible.

Brief Answer:
PIH & Fordyce spots/glands: totally normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome again and thanks for posting your pictures.

I can understand your apprehension for the bumps and spots over the penile area. It is really stressful for a man to have anything unusual on genital area.

After analyzing the pictures with best clinical acumen let me reassure you that all your conditions are quite normal and there is no disease state or abnormality in the same.

Let me explain all your issue one by one:

The dark and light spots are basically known as “Post inflammatory hyper(increased or dark spots) & hypo (decreased o light spots) pigmentation" or PIH. To tell you simply, the darkness is due to the activity of melanocytes in the skin.

These melanocytes are the cells which regularly produces color/pigment known as melanin in the skin. These are superficially present in the upper skin known as epidermis.

There is a tendency in us to get higher or lower activity of these melanocytes after any minor to major irritation or injury. The penile skin is prone for injury to the skin as is most thinnest skin and therefore can cause over production or decreased production of melanin in the skin. This pigmentation is known as " Post inflammatory hyper(increased or dark spots) & hypo (decreased o light spots) pigmentation" or PIH..

This doesn’t require any kind of treatment and because of thin nature of the skin. There is no prescribed treatment for the same and therefore I also do not prefer to give any application or medications.

The eruptions are known as Fordyce spots. These are pinhead size or slightly larger bumps present over mainly the under surface of the penis or anywhere on skin at penile area or upto scrotal region.

Basically these are proliferation of the normal oil glands which are present over this area. Again because of thin nature of genital skin these are quite visible variable in one person to another. These are totally asymptomatic (without any problem) and are most commonly confused with genital warts in their initial course of appearance. A close examination is the must to differentiate one from another.

There is no need of any treatment in this condition as it is totally normal condition. If at all some person are panicky then we do remove these with radiofrequency ablation.

I hope these information's will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help.

"Wish you good health"
