Suggest Treatment To Have Strong Nails

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Nov 2015
Question: I started taking Biotin (2500mg) as my nails were having a difficult growing naturally as a result of acrylic nails for years and gel. But I also was taking Vitamin B complex supplement. My nails are, oh so slowly, growing a bit stronger...still chip/split but only the digit fingers, not the thumbs??
Should I continue taking both supplements?

Brief Answer:
You can take both.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

That is very high dose of Biotin. Did you mean mcg rather than mg? Even with mcg it is a high dose, but I don't see many side effects reported other than possible risk for acne. So if you tolerate 2500 mcg, and if you notice it helping, then you can continue.

You can take it with B complex because there generally is not a lot of Biotin in B complex preparations.

Something you can add to your nail treatment plan is using ammonium lactate - you can get this without prescription at a pharmacy. Put it on your nail-skin fold with a q-tip and it will help moisturize the nail as it grows in. This takes a long time to work, as you have seen with the Biotin.

I hope this information helps.
