Question: I'm diagnosed with schizoaffective with bipolar. I hear from the real living breathing human beings around me call me homosexual slurs, every day for more than a decade. They tell me its auditory hallucinations, "voices". Are they using this as an excuse to continue to insult me? I don't consider myself XXXXXXX so if they're voices what does that mean psychologically, why those types of insults? I am under the impression peoples voices are normally telling them to hurt somebody or themselves. I find it hard to keep believing they're not say this and I'm somehow unique, or else is this a this common type of hallucination.

3. Do you agree that hallucinations are part of the illness?

yes I am on 20mg zyprexa 1250mg depakote, I don't use recreational drugs. Concerning hallucinations I can concede that it is a part of mental illness but that's kind of the crux of my question. I want to know that I'm not one of the only ones who hears XXXXXXX insults out of thin air. I've only ever been able to find handful of other people in a thread on schizophrenia.com who have the same experience.

Brief Answer:
No you are not the only one

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for all the additional information.
Yes, its a common type symptom and you are not the only one. I myself have around 8 patients having similar content of hallucinations and all of the hetrosexuals. So please dont worry about it. Just keep taking the drugs and as long as you have insight that these voices re part of the illness, you shold be doing good. Unlike dreams, the voices that you hear do not have any psychological basis, and please dont worry about the content.
Kind regards
Dr. Srikanth Reddy MD
