Question: My Son who will turn 8 years this September is weighing 22 Kg. I believe he is little thin then the rest of his friends. He is active and an average eater. He is mostly 90% of times eating home cooked food. Is it possible that he has worms (Helminths) in his stomach. How to find out and is there any preventive medicines for it.

Brief Answer: Possible Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for writing to health care magic. 22 kg for 7.5 year old is normal. Do not worry. Its better to deworm once in 6 months. I usually prescribe albendazole 400 mg once every 6 months for all school going kids. Stool tests may or maynot reveal worms. It's safe to give this medicine without test. Don't worry. More than the medicine, frequent hand washing will be of great help in reducing worm infestations. Wishing your kid speedy recovery. Regards Dr Arun
