Posted on Thu, 2 Jul 2015
Question: I have finally reduce my symbicort and pulmicort after a month of maxed doses and going through what feels like withdrawal .. feels a lot like coming off of prednisone. Tired, no energy, rather whiny, headache, hurt all over. Is that what it is? I know with prednisone it takes a few days to get back to normal.

Brief Answer:
Inhaled corticosteroid is unlikely to cause withdrawal symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Withdrawal symptoms are mostly seen with oral steroid (prednisone).
It is extremely unlikely with inhaled corticosteroid.
So better to rule out other causes like lower respiratory tract infection and worsening of bronchitis in your case. As both these conditions cause similar symptoms.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Chest x ray
3. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is needed to rule out worsening of bronchitis.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.

Was just to my Family Doc and said my lungs were clear as of yesterday and won't be seeing my specialist again until August. Peak flows are all where their suppose to be. Above 400 ... I have been running at the last few days at 450 and above.

Makes me wonder now if there isn't a cold bug going around :( Boy!!! I hope not.

I will definitely keep your answer in my files and watch & make sure things don't head down hill.

Thank you for your answer, I do appreciate it. XXXXXXX
