Suggest Treatment For Watery Diarrhea And Bloating

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: I have been having diarreah, watery, smelly, light brownish-tan, oily, for 10 days now. I keep expecting it to lighten but it does not. Everyday I have a "spell" where I go about a dozen times over a couple of hours. The rest of the day I feel bloated, gassy, distended stomach and stomach ache. I reintroduced gluten after 8 years 15 days ago but stopped as soon as the diarrhea started. I would think if this was gluten intolerance it would have run its course by now. Maybe I really do have Celiac's? IBS all of the sudden? Food poisoning? Giardia? Should I be worried yet? What type of doctor should I go to? I've been eating the BRAT diet, and a little Pepto & Imodium. Thoughts or ideas?

Brief Answer:
Gastro Enteritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

From the history you have given it looks like you are suffering from gastroenteritis, which basically infection of the gut. I do not think it is related to celiac disease as it usually leads to diarrhea which wont be foul smelling. Here is what you should do

1. Tab omeprazole with domperidone is the ideal tablet for you. It has to be taken once daily before food
2. Avoid milk, milk products and caffeine until you are better
3. avoid spicy and oily food
4. eat on time and at regular intervals. Do not skip meals
5. Tab sporolac three times daily will replenish bad bacteria of the gut with good bacteria
6. keep yourself well hydrated with water
7. I would recommend you to start an antibiotic, preferably a combination like ciproflox with tinidazole for 5 days
8. You should approach a gastro enterologist
9. Do not take immodium, it causes severe gaseous distention of the stomach. I recommend Racecodotril instead for stopping the watery diarrhea

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back

Gastroenteritis is usually food borne, but other ways are getting it are unclean nails and hands. Sometimes even poor quality of water.
Most gastroenteritis settle down within 5 days and bacterial and parasitic borne GEs last a little while longer and requires treatment with antibiotics.
