Brief Answer:
Lacks adequate research

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Visual Snow syndrome is a disorder that has lacked any comprehensive research to identify it as a distinct and separate disease entity. Controversy exists at VSS being a separate phenomenon or part of another disease manifestation.

The visual field is variably affected with dots in the entire visual field. Daily life activities can be severely hampered as a result. Various diagnoses are offered for patients presenting with such a description, the most common being as part of migraine aura. As many as 30 percent of such cases report some level of headache associated with the visual symptoms.

Ophthalmological exam to rule out glaucoma, vitreous hemorrhage, retinal detachment etc must be done. Neurological and psychiatric workup should follow. All medications that are associated with visual symptoms as adverse effects should be checked for when consulting your doctor.

There is no consensus w.r.t VSS, so recommendations or guidelines for treatment haven't been devised as yet.

wishing you best of health

thanks
