Suggest Treatment For Vertigo And Anxiety

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jan 2017
Question: Hello,
I have been taking 0.5mg once maybe twice a day since thanksgiving of 2016 for anxiety attacks usually at nite before bed. Four days ago I have been experiencing vertigo like symptoms off and on during the day. Could this be caused by the Xanax.
I have had vertigo before due to chronic pansinutis (june of 2016) and was on the prescribed nasal spray (flucosone) and meclizine for motion sickness
NOTE: I was also drinking kava tea during the day, which I have stopped, but still experiencing the same symptoms.
thx, XXXXXXX

Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Yes, Xanax (alprazolam) is the most likely cause for the vertigo. It can cause dizziness, drowsiness, impaired co ordination as potential side effects.

Stop the medication for now. Get your blood pressure and blood sugar checked. If they are fine then its most likely to be the drug. The effect is transient and will wear off in a few hours.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Hello again.

The usual duration of action of lorazepam is 8 hours approximately. However, it may affect individuals differently.

The effect will wear out in 4 to 5 days if you hAve been taking it regularly and stopped on the 25th.

Thanks
