Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXX
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and I will address your query in 2 separate Questionnaire prior to Ayurveda Management.
A.
1. going by your Age, hopefully you have completed family life, thus what was the resulting cause of the said disease:
. was any surgical opinion sought for any anatomical deformity.? [was scrotal ultrasound done]
. was any hormonal profile done for any underlying abnormality?
. any Semen Examination done for sperm count and motility?
2. Regarding Pain:
. is it dull or sharp?
. aggravating and/or relieving factors, any change with position [sitting/standing]
3. since pathology involved in
varicocele is same as in
varicose veins i.e. improper working of "Valves" leading to backflow of blood, and causing the veins to dilate, and eventually damaging testicular tissue, thus problem is "MECHANICAL" and will require surgical exploration sooner or later, you may consult an Ayurveda Shalya Physician for the same, since major complications is/are
low sperm count and Infertility
4. The only cure for a varicocele is surgery, but most of the time it's not necessary [since your family history is thought to be completed] thus preventive aspect can be initiated]
PS. Combinations of certain yoga along with ayurvedic medicines is/are used to treat varicocele. However, you need to consult an
Ayurveda specialist in your Area to set up your own personal routine.
. Medicine which is/are generally recommended: Ashwashila [shilajjet+ ashwagandha], Lajjalu, pulsatilla vulgaris [you can get it in tincture form], horse chest nut [kanor, bankhor]
PS. till date no adverse effects have been reported, but it is recommended that you consult an Ayurveda herbalist before using it.
. make sure to keep your colon clean: take Isabgol/Trifla Churan 1 tsf with XXXXXXX warm water [at bed time]
B.
1. You have not mentioned the cause of the problem, whether it is occupational, due to disease condition, due to being
overweight, stasis, injury or similar problem in any family member?
2. Any associated ulcers, skin loss,?
3. If pain is there, possibly due to obstruction, condition is Mechanical thus surgical opinion is must, please do mention about the same, whether checked with a
general surgeon or not.
4. any other associated symptoms like twisting or protrusion of the affected vein, any itching, aching,(of veins) OR heaviness, fatigue, cramps (of muscles)of affected side?
5. Any tendency to/of developing cuts, ulcers, infection or blood clots? (Clotting/
bleeding time test?)
Please revert back with your concerns and opinion regarding the same, if obstruction is not the cause, Ayurveda treatment cn be initiated, in the mean time following preventive measures can be adopted:
In Ayurveda we consider this disease under Vaat vyadhi “Siragat Vaat”, thus pacification of Vaat is necessary;
i. To overcome the cause take Vit.C rich diet (banana, black grapes, mint, coriander, milk, green vegetables, lemon, papaya, guava, dry raisins, pineapple, tomato, beet, orange, amla) and protein in your meals (take milk with protein powder, paranthas, sprouted beans and pulses),
ii. Avoid anything which decreases venous return like standing for long hours, sitting cross legs, wearing tight jeans, take nicotine (Smoking?),
iii. While at work elevate your ankles and while sleeping elevate the foot end to minimize swelling
iv. You can practice Halasan (Plough Pose) which helps in circulation of blood, but again if obstruction is rule out.
PS. so don’t strain yourself while passing stool:
i. Increase fibre in diet like green vegetables.
ii. Eat fruit with edible covers (apple, pears), inner cover of mosambi, orange, just ripe banana
iii. Take 2table spoon ghee with XXXXXXX warm water, early morning
iv. Avoid oily/fried food, start with plenty of salad and boiled vegetables with rice and roti,do not take ice cold food/drink,avoid yellow of egg
v. Eat at a leisurely pace,if in hury, eat in less quantity, eat less and chew properly
vi. Drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water per day.
vii. Add a mild laxative at night: Abhyarishta 10ml with equal amount of water at bed time
