Suggest Treatment For Venous Insufficiency

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Sep 2014
Question: Hi, I am 44 years old and healthy otherwise but have venous insufficiency. My doctor gave me spironolactone and told me to wear compression stockings, but I live in FL and do homecare and it's too hot for stockings and doing homecare makes it hard for me to run to the bathroom when the diarrhetic kicks in! LOL I am interested in alternative/naturopathic remedies for my problem. I am trying aromatherapy currently, with minimal success. Any suggestions??

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this diagnosis of venous insufficiency and the treatment difficulties that you have reported. I understand the difficulties you have reported with this treatment plan and the wish for alternative measures. This makes real sense. However, treatment of this condition requires that we evacuate the excess fluid in the body and prevent it from building by using a diuretic and physical measures like your doctor has suggested, respectively. Another measure would be to discourage upright positions and this is practically impossible if you have to keep your job.

Other measures are surgical corrections. This is only encouraged as the last option and should you rather opt for this, then ask your doctor about it. However, it would be a difficult and not the best of choices to make at this time.

Other measures would be of limited help following the understanding of this disease process. I would not want you to build on false hope. Review your plans and see how you can keep on these measures and still carry on with work and the difficult climatic conditions. You may want to take the diuretic like when you would be away at home and put on the stockings intermittently. They would hep but would not be ideal as would have been should you have taken the treatment as prescribed.

I hope this helps. I wish your dad well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
