Suggest Treatment For Vaginal Prolapse

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Mar 2015
Question: I've been trying to deal with a progressing prolapse. Went to a gynecologist when it became external. Am waiting for next appointment where a second look will indicate whether a thickening of my vaginal wall has gotten thicker. I need some instruction on how to care for the tissues that are out much of the time. Can you direct me on this?

Brief Answer:
care for prolapsed tissue as any other skin

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. I am sorry that you are having this problem. Surgical repair is the optimal treatment for severe prolapse. A pessary which is a piece of plastic equipment that is placed in the vagina to hold in the prolapsed tissue is also a consideration. If there is tissue that is prolapsed out a great deal of the time then you need to care for that tissue just as you would your external vaginal tissue. Wash it daily with warm soap and water and keep the area as dry as possible. If it is very dry and irritated then your doctor may need to order an estrogen cream for you to use on the tissue.
