Suggest Treatment For Urinary Tract Infection

Question: My son is 6 years old and has not eaten for almost two full days now. He did not have a go to the bathroom yesterday except to urinate and he said that it felt like he had "hot wax" in his penis. No idea how he would know what that feels like but the visual was not good. Today he keeps saying his waist hurts. He has no fever and he is not lethargic even after not eating more than 6 bites since breakfast. Dr. XXXXXXX Runnemede was working on this and my son got my tablet and disconnected me.

Brief Answer:
It seems to be due to urinary tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I have gone though your question and understand your concerns but don't worry. The most likely reason for such complaints in kids are urinary tract infections. Since he is afebrile and he has abnormal burning sensation during urination, the cause seems to be cystitis which is urinary bladder infection.

I would recommend an early morning urine sample collection for routine and microscopic examination to check for infection.

Till the report comes, you may start him on the following things for symptomatic relief:
1. Give Syp. Sodium Citrate thrice daily for relief from burning urination.
2. Plenty of fluids and regular healthy diet.
3. Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for pain relief.

You may upload the reports for my reference and definitive treatment.

Take care
