Question: hi,
my father aged 62 was having urinary tract infection, and he was advised Ceftum 500 BD for 10 days. Today once we performed urine test again, I was shocked to see infection as it is, no improvement at all, RBC's found.
He is suffering from CBD from past 5 years and currently on medication( Donep10, Cardace 10 and Ebixa from last one month).
Please suggest what to do???

Brief Answer:
Requires urine culture and drug susceptibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have gone through your father's symptoms and his medications. Even after taking Tab Ceftum (cefuroxime) 500 mg, twice daily for treating urinary tract infection, the symptoms has not come down.

I would suggest him to have urine culture and drug susceptibility testing which will help me to suggest appropriate oral antibiotics for the symptoms of UTI.

Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the query,

As you have mentioned, even after taking Tab Ceftum (cefuroxime) 500 mg, twice daily for urinary tract infection, the symptoms has not come down. This test will help us to know what is the reason for the same.

Urine culture and drug susceptibility test help us to know the organism causing these symptoms and also to which antibiotics they are sensitive, which will help me to suggest appropriate antibiotics for the symptoms of UTI.
Thank you.
