Brief Answer:
no need to worry much.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I want to ask you few questions first.
1. Does she have shortness of breath.
2. Since how many days she is suffering from these symptoms.
In my opinion it seems upper respiratory tract infection(URTI) only. But you should get done atleast chest x ray first to rule out lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) and pleural effusion.
Though chances of pleural effusion and LRTI are very rare. But with the previous history of pleural effusion we need to rule out these first.
So get done chest x ray first.
If this is normal than no need to worry it will be URTI only. Try to follw these.
1. Avoid oily and spicy food.
2. Take quinolone group of antibiotic for 5 days..
3. Take antihistamines and anti inflammatory drug for 5 days.
4. Warm saline gargles 5-6 times daily.
So no need to worry much at present. Get done chest x ray first. If it is normal than start this treatment and she can travel to 17000 ft height.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your wife. Thanks.
