Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation and saline nasal rinse should be enough

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Sinusitis is an infection of sinuses, the air pockets contained in our skull. It is most often caused due to viral although occasionally there is a superadded bacterial infection present. Antibiotics or any other medicines cannot reach the sinuses properly and sinuses have a poor blood supply. Antibiotics may relieve the superadded bacterial infections, but the unresolved underlying infection may flare up subsequently. Taking steam inhalation can provide relief as it helps in opening up the openings of the sinuses that have been blocked by thickened mucus. Water in form of vapor will reach deep inside and will help in dilute the thickened mucus.

Dr. Richards correctly suspects the role of allergy in case of sinusitis. Allergy triggers such a presentation. Sometimes it is also associated with reactive airway disease or asthma which may be present simultaneously. But it is no use proactively trying to treat. You would need to seek additional medical help in case of respiratory distress or increased wheezing. You can ask him to prescribe montek LC tablet (contains monteleukast + levocetirizine) [prescription drug], which if taken once daily for next 5-7 days should suffice. You can tell your her to try it and unless things go downhill she could stick to what I have suggested. You need not worry. Hopefully it would be get well soon.

Feel free to write back.
