default
Posted on Mon, 26 Oct 2015
Question: I had my left kidney removed in 2007. Tumor. I'm experiencing pain where it used to be. From right below my rib cage to above my pelvic area on my back. It is a dull, almost bruised pain that intensifies when I cough. I have an upper respiratory infection right now and every time I cough it hurts. I am a 53 year old female with no other health issues. I'm on no medications.

Brief Answer:
Painkillers and treatment of respiratory infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

During a respiratory infection there can be pain in the loin region from where the kidney was removed. It is because coughing makes the abdominal and back muscles tense as well. Here is how you should go about it

1. Tab Levocetrizine twice a day will bring down the cough
2. Tab Tylenol/Paracetamol three times a day will bring down the pain, you can take them for 3-4 days
3. I would like you to apply hot bags over the tender areas, it will help you with the pain
4. Keep yourself warm at all times and avoid cold food and beverages

If the symptoms worsen then please visit your doctor as soon as possible.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
