Brief Answer:
Increased acidity

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

The pain in the upper abdomen could be probably be due to increased acidity. You can take Nexium for relief. I presume your doctor must have said the same and would have prescribed similar medications.

But if the pain is continuous, not relieved by Nexium and is radiating to back or shoulder, then you may have to undergo more tests to rule out conditions like cholecystitis or pancreatitis. You may need tests like ultrasound scan of the abdomen and serum amylase and lipase tests.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
When I said due to increased acidity, that included ulcer also.
If it is an ulcer, you have to take Nexium.
You need to get tested for H.pylori infection which is an important cause for ulcer. If positive, it has to be eradicated with two weeks of antibiotics.
