Question: My mother developed a swelling in her lower eye lid. I took her to the eye Dr.
He believes that the eye lashes are rolled inside and are causing a discharge, and he is referring her to the specialist.
He also said that the grey coloring in her eye was possibly from the back of the lens. he said that sometimes the surgeon goes in and makes a small incision to release whatever...does this make sense? Her vision is 20/20 + 20/30-
Brief Answer:
Trichiasis with cataract in one eye.
Detailed Answer:
Based on what your doctors said, it seems she has trichiasis and cataract.
Trichiasis can be corrected with epilation. This is a minor out procedure done at your doctors office. Procedure will be followed up with antibiotic therapy. I use drops like oflacin .3% for 10days along with neosporine ophthalmic oint ment over the lid margin after epilation.
Cataract can be corrected if needed by phaco emulsification. This can be done at a later stage after treating trichiasis.
I think what your doctor told is right. But do consider consulting an ophthalmologist to confirm the diagnosis. You can discuss about treatment once the diagnosis is clear.
Hope this helped. Let me know if you need clarifications.
