Brief Answer:
Essential tremor/Anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being here on Healthcaremagic.com,
I am,Dr.Ajay Panwar, a neurologist,here to answer your query.

You are apparently having generalised shakiness ,more in hands and arms and it appears to be postural(postural means, starting to happen when hands and arms remain in a particular posture for a few seconds).

Likely causes-
1)Essential Tremor
2)Anxiety
3)Alcohol(if an individual takes it heavily).

Please answer a few questions-
1)Since how many months or years, you are having this problem of shakiness?
2)In which hand or arm it started first-left or right or both symmetrically?
3)Is shakiness occurring at rest?
4)Are your limbs stiff?
5)History of anxiety or alcohol intake?
6)Is memory, sleep and behaviour normal or some changes?
7)Any other past medical history?
8)Does any of your family member has similar problem?
9)Does shakiness occurs in head also?

Please revert back with the details and I shall be glad to answer your query well.

I do not use alcohol and I do not smoke.
The last year I really started noticing it , also some of my children noticed the shaking in me.
No one else in my family has this problem.
Seems like the past 6 months I have "gone braindead". I forget a certain word for something like "Raisin Bran" , my level of focusing is not normal for me.
My legs and feet do get stiff.
Every now and then I will turn my head to the left and a sharp pain shoots up from my shoulder to the top of my head. It doesn't last long but is very painful when it does it.
I smoked for years until 4 months ago. I smoked 2 packs a day. The heart attack woke me up on that one.
I was diagnosed with Polysythemia Vera and took medication for that for a year. I can't remember the name but it was also used with Leukemia cancer.
I just know something isn't right with this shaking. It can start on either side of my body in the arms.

Brief Answer:
It may be 'Anxiety' or 'Essential Tremor'

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
You are welcome for the day.

I really feel concerned for this problem of shakiness with you. After going through your clinical history,I think most likely cause of this shakiness is associated 'Anxiety disorder'.Of course 'Essential tremor' would have been a possibility but it becomes less likely in view of negative family history.

Occasional stiffness is not of significance.I asked about stiffness and asymmetry(on one side or both) to rule out 'Parkinson's disease' which can be a cause of shakiness sometimes, but appears unlikely in your case.

I suggest you to meet a neurologist and get a neurological examination done to screen for any abnormality. If it turns out to be normal, it will further strengthen the chances of diagnosis I suggested.

Please do some mental relaxation exercises like 'meditation' and 'yoga'.It will surely help.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have follow-up queries,I shall be glad to answer.
