Suggest Treatment For Tingling Sensation In Arm

default
Posted on Fri, 31 Oct 2014
Question: Yes, I lost total strength in my right tricep. Seemingly over night. Also my right arm seems to have a tingling sensation in my fingers. Years ago this scapula was broken. I had the exact same symptoms, but with good reason. My strength right now is about the equivalent of week 2 after breaking my scapula. I can lift my arm, but when I attempt to lock my elbow my arm trembles with weakness. Also about a month and half ago I had a severe pain in my spine between my shoulder blades.. just trying to give you all the info. Yesterday I went to the gym. I could not lift 5 pounds with my right tricep, as compared to my left about 30 pounds. I am right handed.

Brief Answer:
You may be having right radial nerve palsy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you may be having sudden onset radial nerve palsy popularly called Saturday night palsy in your right arm because it has developed overnight, you are feeling tingling in your finger and you have weakness in triceps. It occurs due to continuous pressure on radial nerve in arm or axilla in deep sleep. It leads to paralysis, tingling sensation and decreased sensation in the area supplied by radial nerve. It is called Saturday night palsy because on Saturday night generally people party. After party they go to deep sleep on the chair with the arm hanging from the side of the chair pressuring the radial nerve. So it is common after Saturday night. It commonly recover by itself in a day or two but it can take to recover up to 3 weeks. Methyl cobalamine may be of help in speeding recovery. More detailed analysis can be done by nerve conduction study if recovery does not start and also to exclude other causes.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.
