Suggest Treatment For Throbbing Pain In Scrotum

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Oct 2014
Question: I have been having pain and throbbing sensation in my right testicle for over a month. I consulted a doc and got an ultrasound done. The report says, "Few Serpentine, dilated and tortuous vascular structures (measuring approx. 2 mm in diameter) in relation to spermatic cord are seen bilaterally (more prominent on standing) with minimal early reflux on valsalva suggestive of early grade 1 Variocele bilaterally.

The doc on seeing the report says nothing to worry and told me to resume my regular routine. My routine involves work and workout in the evening. Its been a month now I have not hit the gym due to pain in the scrotum. Kindly advise the solution and how to get rid of this pain

Brief Answer:
Other possibilities to be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail and seen the attached report.
The ultrasound report mentions that there is little pooling of blood in your testicular veins. This is called as varicocele when the valves inside the veins in the cord prevent your blood from flowing properly. The resulting backup causes the veins to widen (dilate). You have it in the earliest stages and not a serious concern.

If you were my patient, I would suggest you to have a ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis also, to look for any related problems like kidney stones which can cause testis pain. Sometimes, pain from other conditions, such as kidney stones, may be perceived in the scrotum. A hernia also needs to be clinically ruled out by a surgeon because you say it happened after doing heavy exercise.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Thank you for the revert. As you said that the variocele is at the earliest stages, why can't we get rid of it when it is known that variocele is there. What remedy medication, treatment ) should be opted for getting rid of variocele at this stage?

Brief Answer:
Surgical repair to be discussed with urologist

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back an update.

Medical literature says that varicocele treatment may not be necessary in every patient, especially in early stage. However, if the varicocele causes pain, testicular atrophy or infertility, and if you are considering assisted reproductive techniques, treatment is by varicocele repair. The purpose of surgery is to seal off affected veins to redirect the blood flow into normal veins. This needs to be discussed in detail with the urologist and decision is on the surgeon whether it is to be operated.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
