Suggest Treatment For Tender Sores On Scalp

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Oct 2015
Question: l have sores on my scalp. They are very tender and sore, like a pimple but when I scrape them it releases a grainy substance. After scraping them it turns to a scab in a day or so and a few days later goes away. I have never experienced this before. At first I thought it was common scorieses, but now I am not sure at all. It doesn't leave scally rashes, it is more like a pimple.

Brief Answer:
an infection is present, may be fungal/bacterial or both

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

From the symptoms mentioned, an infection is present. It may be bacterial or fungal or both.

The presence of the sores on the scalp may indicate a fungal infection. This is one of the common causes for scalp lesions though bacterial infections can occur as well.

Some persons can have both, it starts out commonly as fungal infection but then bacteria is introduced under the skin from the surrounding scalp or hands.

If it is a fungal infection then oral anti fungal medication would be needed. Antibiotics would be added if there is also a bacterial infection present

If it is not possible to see someone at the moment then you can try the following: (1) clean the area with anti septic cleanser or soap at least twice daily
(2)you can continue the cream that you are currently using
(3)apply a topical antibiotic cream and a topical anti fungal cream eg of anti fungals are clotrimazole, ketoconazole, econazole, miconazole

If there is no improvement after a few days then you may need to see your doctor for oral medication

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
