default
Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: Ive had a tender red/purple bump on my skin for the last few days and now has opened up. Ive been putting savlon on under a bandaid, is this just a bad pimple or something else? I never get pimples so im not sure.

Brief Answer:
Most probably infected rash

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. The image shows infected rash. If i were your treating doctor then i would have advised following things:

- Apply Polyfax plus(Bacitracin, Lignocaine &, Polymyxin B (Sulphate) combination) ointment over the rash thrice a day
- keep rash clean.
- wash hands before and after touching the rash

Hopefully you will see improvement in 3-4 days BUT if condition remains same or aggravates then you need to visit hospital and further workup and prescription medicines.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

Thanks for your reply, the redness around the bump is actually from the bandaids and there is no rash, and we dont have polyfax in australia, its just a purple bump that had opened up. Can you recommend an australian alternative? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Ask for POLYMYXIN B SULPHATE salt at pharmacy

Detailed Answer:
Hello

There are a number of alternatives in Australia. Few that i was able to search include: Tricin & Amacin. You can visit your nearest pharmacy and ask him to give you salt "POLYMYXIN B SULPHATE" ointment. You can apply that 2-3 times a day.

Thank You
