Brief Answer: Sunscreen+Skin Lightening cream Detailed Answer: Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at XXXXXXX Pigmentation OR Tanning is common in Indian Skin type(Skin Type IV) because we have more Melanin in our skin as compared to people in the west and exposure to sun stimulates production of even more Melanin which can persist for months. For any skin lightening therapy to be effective in decreasing pigmentation, sun protection is a must. If i was your treating doctor i would have asked you to use a broad spectrum sunscreen regularly, throughout the day, on parts exposed to sun. Sunscreen should have both UVA and UVB coverage and a minimum spf of 30. It should be re-applied every 2-3 hours. A skin lightening cream at night containing one or more of the following ingredients like kojic acid, glycolic acid, hydroquinone, arbutin, tetrahydrocurcumin, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate(Vit C) and liquorice extract etc are available in various formulations on prescription of a dermatologist would help in decreasing the pigmentation/tan gradually. take care regards
