Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Acid Reflux

Question: I have a 66-year old friend (who teaches meditation and is a Buddhist nun) who is 5 feet tall, weighs about 95 pounds. She claims she has acid reflux, but refuses to take allopathic meds, so is eliminating more and more foods from her diet. She is falling asleep during every meditation sit (she sits 3 times per day, regularly). It's embarassing to her, and to other XXXXXXX teachers she associates with. in fact, a XXXXXXX monk told me he was embarrassed to sit on stage next to her, with her face on the floor.
Nobody can entice her to eat as she has a degree in dietetics (albeit from 1970). I will be her attending person for a NY retreat this week, and am in charge of filling her bowl. Any help you can offer me?

Brief Answer:
GERD is treatable, try to convince her

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Elimination of diet alone is not the answer. It can lead to vital minerals and vitamins to become deficient in the body. Acid reflux or GERD is easily treatable/ manageable especially if there is no associated pathology. PPIs, pro kinetics, antacids, sucralfate for two weeks can be advised in consultation with your doctor. If the complain persists then further workup would be required to look for other possible causes.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
