Question: There is a piece of my tonsil growing outward from my tonsil. It looks like a piece of my tonsil is like pointing out... I don't know what it is. It feels like a piece of hair is caught in my throat so when I looked I saw it sticking out the side of my tonsil. I can't see my ENT for another 4 days is the next available appointment. Help please-- what is this thing?

Brief Answer:
Enlarged tonsil or tonsillar mass, Need an ENT evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

The tonsillar protrusion along with feeling of something stuck in throat could possibly be an enlarged tonsil or tonsillar mass.
Tonsils can become enlarged in bacterial infections of tonsils, allergy etc . It will usually be accompanied with sore throat.
Another possibility is an actual growth on tonsils like calcium deposit (tonsillar stones, which is usually white colored), polyp, granuloma or tumor etc.
A detailed ENT examination is required to confirm the diagnosis.
Please be advised to follow up with the ENT specialist as scheduled.
Meanwhile, you can take Tylenol if there is pain .You can also do warm saline gargle twice daily to reduce pain and clear throat.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thank you for uploading the picture.

The protrusion from tonsil is likely to be a polyp or cyst. Both polyp and cyst are mostly benign lesions and nothing to be worried about.

If the feeling of lump stuck in the throat is bothersome, then the polyp/cyst can be removed surgically.
There is nothing to be worried about.

Please follow up with the ENT specialist for removal of the lesion.

Hope this answers your question
