Suggest Treatment For Swollen Tonsils And Bumps At The Back Of Throat

Question: Hi I have swollen tonsils and bumps on the back of my throat. I've been on penicillin for 7 days no change.

It started with a sore throat for 2 days. Now it does not hurt just red and bumps

Thanks for posting the query

I have examined the image thoroughly and noticed the following:
1. A small tonsil on the right side with congestion over it.
2. Granular pharyngeal wall - the bump you have described about.

The granulations are nothing but hypertrophied lymphoid follicles. Granulations are noted when there is infection in the surrounding area. Do not worry, they are harmless swellings.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water.
2. Avoid oily & spicy food, chilled food and beverages, fizzy drinks and smoking.
3. Try using povidone iodine throat gargles.

When I went to the doctors they said I had tonsillitis. I'm just a bit worried it's taking so long to clear up. And the bumps on the back of the throat your sure there's nothing to worry about?

Trust me, it's a part of the inflammatory process and once you start taking medicines for the throat infection the granulations will disappear.

Granulations are nothing but the enlarged lymphoid follicles which help in fighting the infection and it's not a sign of cancer.

The granulations persist in many conditions such as chronic sinusitis, chronic pharyngitis, acid reflux disease, mouth breathing, allergy, etc. They are relatively harmless.
