Brief Answer:
Soft tissue injury, though an x-ray would be smart

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. Sorry to hear about your ankle. I understand you're sure that its not broken, but sometimes tiny fractures ('hair-line' fractures) in the bone can present with swelling and pain.

It would be a good idea to call your doctor and get an appointment to get an x-ray of the ankle in good time.

In the meantime, OTC (Over The Counter) pain killers like Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen will help with the pain and swelling. Soaking your foot in hot water with Epsom salt will help as well.

Try and stay off the ankle and raise it a bit on a pillow.

You can purchase an ankle brace at your local pharmacy or a crepe bandage to wrap it in the meantime.

If there is no fracture, then these interventions and time should help the most. If the swelling is not going down or if the pain lasts beyond 10 days or so. Then you will need to consult with an Orthopedician and dig deeper

I hope this helps.

Vinay
