Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lymph Nodes Behind The Ears

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Jul 2015
Question: I just visited a doctor today regarding a lump in front of my right ear and I feel dismissed. Although he said it didn't appear to be swollen lymph nodes, he didn't rule out anything else especially anything scary. I was told only to come back if it grows. 3 weeks ago I noticed a small lump in front of my right ear between my cheekbone and ear. It's aligned with my cheekbone, firm but not rock-hard, it seems to move a little bit, it is painless, and small (pencil head eraser or smaller). Although it hasn't grown, it also hasn't gotten any smaller. I am worried this coyld be an overlooked cancerous tumor. Should I get a second opinion on this mass or do you feel my doc is right.

Brief Answer:
Very rarely it can be a cancerous tumour.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
I have read your query and understand the concerns.

It could be cystic swelling but can be very rarely turned out to be a tumour as your doctor also rule out it.So,there is no need to worry and be rested.

However, you can take the clinical picture and upload it as there is feature to upload the images and reports available on the right side this query page.

There could be infection or due to some allergic reaction something to the environment and most of the time it subsides within 3 to 4 weeks but if the lump persists or progresses then it would be reasonable to discuss with your local doctor.

At present, I would advice you to wait for 3 to 4 weeks to resolve the lump (there is no need of second opinion from other doctor) and if not then you can go for ultrasound of the lump and USG guided FNAB (fine needle aspiration biopsy) to rule out any tumor which is unlikely in your case.

Hope this information will help and get back to me if you have any query.
